PHOTO STORY

This is a story about how ones vision changes after meeting someone who has really impacted you as a person. In the beginning their vision is cloudy. I have manipulated the first two photographs by altering the brightness and contrast to give it a dulled effect. Meeting the person is the most dramatic event which I portrayed through highly contrasting black and white photos. This also symbolizes how this person has changed the others vision to see things in black and white, which is basically a simple yet undeniably truthful view of the world. The image that is upside down is like that to represent that the characters world was turned upside down. The sunburst in the sky is symbolic of a guiding light. In the next few photographs I have manipulated the hue and saturation of the flower to create a rainbow, representing how the characters vision is not only black and white but a prism of all colors, and ultimate possibilities. As you can see the same guiding light is in corners of some of the photographs creating a focal pint and giving the photo a surreal feeling. In other photographs the background colors are blurred, creating a  bokeh, something I really wanted to create in this class and succeeded.

Filters

For both of these photos, I was going for a graphic look to give the illution that they were actually illustrations and not photographs. For the first photo I used the poster edges filter and for the second photo I used both the poster edge filter and the fresco filter.

Light and Color Manipulation

For both of these photos I edited the colors so that the grey of the headstones changed to a lilac hue, which I thought looked good against the orange moss. For the first photo, I edited the brightness and contrast so that it would appear more sharp and for the second one I edited it so that it would appear more hazy.

Cropping

For both of these photos, I cropped them so that the subject was in the corner. I thought it was more interesting then having them in the center of the photo.

Landscapes

The only photograph in this post taken with my old camera, a Nikon Cool Pix point and shoot. This is probably the best looking shot I ever got using that camera. This photo is unedited and was taken last December.

This photo was taken at Lyndon State College. I noticed that from the place I was standing that the light pole looked like a cross. The sky also happened to have very low clouds, giving a dramatic feel. I used the rule of thirds, making my horizon the top of the buildings and close to the bottom of the photo. By having more sky showing than the buildings, it makes the view feel drawn in. I edited it with a sepia tone and messing with the brightness and contrast a bit to give it even more of a dramatic effect.

I used the technique of framing for this photograph, featuring a beautiful orange tree on campus and Burke Mountain in the background. I gave the photo an antique tint, which gives a slight orange overcast  to the photo. I really wanted to capture the essence of fall in this photo.

This photo was also taken on campus. I love the twisted branches of these trees. Havnig to squat to take this picture, my intent was to make the trees appear as if they are looming above you. I used the rule of thirds to get this shot, and held the camera so that the lines of the horizon and the tops on the 2 trees would be on a diagonal.

This photo of Willoughby Lake was taken from the top of Burke Mountain. I used the rule of thirds to take this picture and ended up cropping it to make it even more effective. I played of the hazy look of the sky(this was taken at dusk) by messing with the brightness and contrast levels to give a slight antique look.

Color Schemes

My first photo features an analogous color scheme with dark and light hues of blue, purple, and red purple. My second photos features and complimentary color scheme from the red of the berries and the green of the leaves.

Collage

For my collage I used the macro setting on my camera to take pictures of my boyfriends eyes. I couldn't decide if I liked it with or without the window pane so I have uploaded both.

Point of View

I climbed the fire tower at the top of Burke Mountain yesterday to watch the sun set. Out of these two photos, the second one is my favorite. Even though the first one has stunning color and a better view of the sunset I love the feel of the second one. I changed my point of view by kneeling down more and having the frame of the window in the shot. By kneeling down I catch the slightest tint of orange cast by the setting sun on the bottom part of the glass.
